Kosgoda is the only place in Sri Lanka where you can watch newly hatched sea turtles scramble to the ocean from your hotel beach — and the Sheraton sits right on the nesting strip.
October to April is hatching season. The hotel's neighbouring turtle hatchery releases young turtles at sunset most evenings — guests walk down and form a guard of honour to the waterline. It's the single most memorable thing many Aussie guests do in Sri Lanka.
This is also the most polished resort on the south coast — an adults-only pool with sunset views, a full-service spa, and an actual proper gym — rare on the south coast. Note: TFS Loyalty redemption stays cannot be combined with Marriott Bonvoy or any other hotel rewards or promotional offer.
The beach is wide, golden and calm enough for swimming most months. It's a short tuk-tuk to Bentota for boat safaris on the Madu Ganga river — mangrove tunnels, monitor lizards, fish therapy, and a cinnamon plantation visit in two hours.
Restaurants lean refined Sri Lankan — crab curry, ambul thiyal, lobster cooked on coconut husk. The Sunday curry buffet is locally famous.
TFS Loyalty redemption stays run May–October only — plan your turtle-watching visit inside that window. October sees the start of dry season and excellent turtle hatchings on this coast.
